NEF Renewables Welcomes Photovoltaic Grant Scheme

The National Energy Foundation welcomes the news that thousands of homes and offices across the UK are set to be powered by photovoltaic arrays as part of a £20msolar power programme. The money is being made available through the DTI's Major Photovoltaics Demonstration Programme (PV MDP) and will help reduce carbon emissions and significantly cut the cost of solar technology over the next three years. Grants will be offered to the private and public sector to install solar systems on new or existing buildings.

As a result of this investment, the number of domestic solar electric - or photovoltaic - installations in the UK is expected to increase ten fold by 2005. The Grant Scheme raises the profile of photovoltaics and provides a major boost to the solar electric trade.

Enquiries about the grant programme can be received on free phone0800 298 3978 and fax back number 0845 330 0745. A website is being set up
www.solargrants.org.ukand will be operational in the second half of April.

In the meantime, the proposed scope of the programme, funding criteria etc are on the DTI website www.dti.gov.uk/renewable/renew.htm under the title "Design Study for First Phase of the Major PV Demonstration Programme - Executive Summary".

For further information on photovoltaics, telephone the NEF Renewables free phone help line on0800 138 0889 or email enquiries@greeneenergy.org.uk

Please contact the Renewables team if you have a successful renewable energy installation. Sharing the experience of fitting a green energy system could encourage others to follow suit. We could create a case study to publicise the possibilities and feasibilities of renewable energy.
