Expanded System Qualification Guidelines (what’s new is in pink
italics)
To be considered a Million Solar Roofs System, it must be new or
a system that was installed before 1997, failed and has been reconditioned.
It must also meet one or more of the following criteria.
Photovoltaic and other Solar Electric Systems:
- Residential systems must be a minimum of 0.5 kW
- School, public building, and church
systems must be a minimum of 1.0 kW.
- Commercial systems must be a minimum of 2.0 kW.
- Solar Thermal Water Heating Systems:
- Residential, school or public building
water heating systems must be a minimum of 1.0 kW equivalent or
6 million BTU annual output or 20 square feet of collector area.
- Residential, school or public building
swimming pool heating systems must be a minimum of 100 square feet of
collector area or 1.0 kW equivalent or 6 million
BTU annual output.
- Commercial domestic systems must be a minimum of 2.0 kW or
12 million BTU annual output or 40 square feet of collector area.
- Commercial swimming pool heating systems must be a minimum of 400 square
feet of collector area or 2.0 kW equivalent or 12
million BTU annual output.
Solar Thermal Space Heating or Cooling
Systems:
- Collector area must be a minimum of 100 square feet or 4.0 kW equivalent
or 12 million BTU annual output.
- For residential and school systems there is no
minimum collector area, but systems must produce at least 3 million BTU
annual output.
