Transmission Summit
2005 |
Now in its seventh year, the Transmission Summit has established itself as the premier networking event for transmission CEOs, Presidents and other senior executives. Each year, these strategic leaders meet in Washington to address the changing strategic, regulatory, investment and technology issues facing the industry and explore the solutions that will shape the future of the industry and affect the decision-making and fortunes of transmission businesses and organizations. This year's theme is "Building the Grid of the Future" and the Summit will feature three outstanding events:

New Transition Technology Symposium - Mar. 9 (An Intensive Briefing on the State of the Art in New Transmission Technology) |
Utilities are increasingly pressed between the need to increase throughput and reliability of their transmission system and the opposition of their customers to new right of ways and transmission infrastructure construction. The opposition to building new transmission comes from environmental concerns, health concerns around EMF issues, aesthetics and the scarcity of land for right of ways leading into urban centers where the need for electricity is growing at an increasingly rapid pace. These opposing pressures create an environment where new technology applications are gaining acceptance even among conservative utilities who have implemented tried and true transmission technologies over the last 100 years. This is good news as many of the new technologies have been proven in the field and can dramatically improve the performance of the grid. This intensive symposium will provide a comprehensive introduction to four of the most promising areas of new technology applications in the grid from the best-in-class technology companies. The four selected areas are:
