EDF say water law could cost $467-mil/yr, wait for Senate debate

London (Platts)--1Apr2005

EDF said Friday they will wait until Apr 5 before commenting further on a
proposed water law that could cost them more than $467-mil (Eur360-mil) a year
after statements by the company, confirmed true by EDF on Friday, were printed
in the La Tribune newspaper on Thursday.

On Apr 5 the proposed law is to be debated by the French Senate. In the
newspaper, EDF said the law, aimed at improving the quality of French
waterways by 2015, would have "serious consequences" for EDF and would "lower
the value of the company," if introduced. The company said the law would
reduce the production of French renewable energy by 2.3TWh per year, of which
1.7TWh per year would be peak power reductions. EDF also said French
hydroelectric production would be reduced by 5% and total peak production
would be reduced by 15% if the law was introduced.
