APS Issues Draft RFP for Renewable Resources

PHOENIX, Mar 31, 2005 -- BUSINESS WIRE

Arizona Public Service Company (APS) announced today that it has issued a draft request for proposal seeking renewable energy resources for delivery beginning in 2006.

This RFP complies with APS' recently completed general rate case, which requires that APS solicit at least 100 megawatts and at least 250,000 megawatt-hours per year of renewable resources. Going forward, APS will be required to meet at least 10 percent of its annual incremental peak capacity with renewable energy resources.

Proposals will be considered for the following types of renewable energy resources: solar, wind, biomass/biogas, small hydro (under 10 megawatts), hydrogen (other than from natural gas) and geothermal. The renewable resources must be deliverable to the APS transmission system and the pricing must not exceed 125 percent of conventional resource alternatives.

A pre-bid conference for interested parties will be held April 13. Additional information about this draft RFP and the pre-bid conference is available online at www.aps.com/rfp.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electric utility, serves more than 989,500 customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW).
