Coalition Urges Support for Crucial Energy Legislation
WASHINGTON, April 18, 2005 /PRNewswire
The Coalition for Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE) today urged members of the House to support the Energy Policy Act of 2005, comprehensive legislation that will enable the United States to meet growing energy needs.
Developments continue to show the desperate need for America to adopt a national energy policy to ensure the availability of essential energy resources. In the absence of an effective energy plan, Americans have suffered from rising home heating oil costs, record gasoline prices, major electricity blackouts and natural gas shortages. Until a comprehensive policy is implemented, citizens will remain at risk of these and other energy crises.
"Safeguarding affordable and reliable supplies of energy ensures the nation's economic vitality, enhances our domestic security, and protects both the health and well-being of our citizens," said Oakley. "The time for a strategic and forward-looking energy policy is now."
CARE was formed in 2000 to advocate adoption of a comprehensive energy policy that will enable the United States to meet its energy needs, and strike a sensible balance among the nation's social, economic, national security, environmental and energy goals. Today, CARE is actively engaged in a wide variety of energy and environmental issues, but the coalition's fundamental mission has remained the same: ensuring the availability of affordable and reliable supplies of energy for America's families and businesses.
The Coalition for Affordable and Reliable Energy (CARE) is a diverse coalition representing over 100,000 businesses and more than 50 million workers and energy consumers committed to policies that will ensure the availability of affordable and reliable energy supplies, which are essential to America's economic vitality and quality of life.
