Oklahoma House Passes Coal Use Bill

A bill encouraging use of coal-fired electric energy by certain utilities passed the state House Tuesday.

Any public utility serving customers in this state shall be encouraged by the Corporation Commission to utilize all coal-fired generation currently available for use in their system, or develop or contract coal-fired generation from other generators to meet future growth requirements, the bill said.

Senate Bill 349, by state Sen. Kenneth Corn, D-Howe, and state Rep. Dennis Adkins, R-Tulsa, passed the Senate 25-17 before passing the House 99-0. The measure is expected to go to a conference committee.
