Hydrogen compressor manufacturer Pdc Machines exhibits at H2Expo 2005

Diaphragm compressors are a key technology for the coming hydrogen economy. Pdc Machines Inc., a manufacturer of such compressors from Warminster, PA, has made "compressing a cleaner future" one of its core activities, delivering its devices to hydrogen generation companies, automobile manufacturers, and fuel cell developers around the world. At the upcoming H2Expo on August 31 and September 1 in Hamburg, Germany, Pdc Machines will once again be a highlight of the technology exhibition.

Established in 1977 as a one-man business, Pdc Machines has become a major supplier of state-of-the-art diaphragm compressor technology to customers such as Air Products, BOC, Hydrogenics, Praxair, Shell, and many others. Typical applications include hydrogen filling stations for fuel cell vehicles, buses and forklifts; power back-up using hydrogen fuel cells for telecommunication towers and power plants; and residential refuelers for fuel cell cars and power generators.

There, Pdc's compressors provide significant benefits, such as contamination-free gas compression, which garantuees high product purity – important for example for PEM fuel cells which rely on high-purity hydrogen. The compressors operate safely, no gas leakages to the atmosphere occur. Further advantages include high reliability and uptime with a life-cycle of 10,000 to 40,000 hours without the need for spare parts replacement; low noise levels with only 85 dbA; high efficiency because only one to two stages of compression are necessary in comparison to three or four stages with other devices and very little or no cooling required in certain cases; wide range of performance with flow rates from 1 Nm3/hr to 2,000 Nm3/hr, horsepower from 1hp to 200hp and discharge pressure of up to 15,000 psi (1,034 bar) with the 3rd generation compressor model.

Pdc is the first company in the United States to manufacture diaphragm compressors in accordance with European CE, ATEX and PED regulations. One of the company's compressors is operating in Madrid at one of the CUTE (Clean Urban Transport for Europe) demonstration hydrogen fueling stations, another is destined for Stockholm. A third diaphragm compressor will be installed in Athens and will be powered by wind-generated electricity.

Pdc Machines Inc. exhibits at H2Expo in booth no. 325 (hall 3 of the Congress Center Hamburg) and also has a presentation at the Exhibitor Forum on "A Breath of Fresh Air, Compressing A Cleaner Future – PDC Machines Paving the Way for the Hydrogen Economy".
