Air Products plans hydrogen plant for ExxonMobil Joliet refinery

Air Products Monday said it has signed an agreement with ExxonMobil
to build, own and operate an 18,000 Mcf/d hydrogen facility adjacent to the
major's Joliet, Illinois, refinery.
     The integrated steam methane reformer and recovery system, would process
refinery offgas and would assist the refinery produce lower sulfur fuels, Air
Products said. It is expected to be on-stream in May 2006 and to supply
hydrogen and steam to the 238,000 b/d refinery under a long-term agreement,
the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania-based company said. 
     Air Products said the Joliet hydrogen facility would be the 27th to be
built under an alliance between Air Products and Technip. The Paris-based
engineering and construction company would provide the design and construction
for hydrogen generation units while Air Products would provide the gas
separation technology.
