German oil products sales fall 0.2% in year to June on high price

Freiburg (Platts)--25Aug2005
Oil products sales in Germany, Europe's largest oil market, fell 0.2% in
the 12 months to June 2005 from the same period a year earlier as rising
prices curbed demand, the country's export office BAFA said Thursday.
Sales of oil products came to 118.4-mil mt in the recent period, compared
with 118.7-mil mt in July 2003 to June 2004. Crude oil has set records during
2005 and in overnight trade touched $68 in New York, boosting product prices.
A spokesman for the export office said the reason for the decline in
sales was that fuel was so expensive. "Not everyone is taking their car for
short journeys any more," the spokesman said.
Petrol sales rose 3.1% to 18-mil mt and diesel sales by 1.3% to 28.8-mil
mt, while light heating oil sales fell 1.8% to 24.5-mil mt and heavy heating
oil sales declined 2.8% to 6.2-mil mt, the export office said.
Oil products exports increased 19% to 25.1-mil mt and imports rose 4.8%
to 34.7-mil mt. Crude imports rose 3.2% to 111.3-mil mt and the value of crude
on the German border increased 33.7% to Eur257.02/mt.
