The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
announced Dec. 1 that it would extend until Feb. 17, 2006, the public
comment period on proposed changes to the New Source Review Program that
would provide nationwide consistency in how states implement the program
for electric power plants.
The changes, proposed Oct. 13, would standardize the emission tests
used in the Clean Air Act´s New Source Review provisions to determine if
a physical or operational change at a power plant would increase
emissions, thereby requiring the plant to install additional pollution
controls.
The EPA will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes Dec. 9 at
9 a.m. at the agency´s office in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
