EU to push for global co-operation

European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas
will make the establishment of a post-Kyoto global strategy on climate
change a priority during his appearance at the UN conference in Montreal
next week.
"Time is running out,” said Commissioner Dimas. "Montreal gives us the
opportunity to start a debate on future climate policies, which must involve
all major emitters in order to be effective. The European Union will
continue to make a strong case for global action against climate change. I
call on all our partners to join us in these efforts.”
The EU is also continuing its long-held support of the Kyoto Protocol, with
decisions on strengthening the regulations and streamlining key mechanisms
also on the agenda. As one of the staunchest promoters of Kyoto, the
