LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - December 6, 2005 - Building on the success of its
current portfolio of solar technology products, GE Energy has released
its highest power and highest efficiency solar module to date, the
company announced today at Power-Gen International 2005.
Designed for commercial solar applications, the new 200-watt solar
module uses polycrystalline cells. Offering higher output per square
foot, the new module speeds the installation process by reducing the
amount of racking and labor associated with a large solar array
installation.
GE Energy's 200-watt solar module has been UL 1703-certified and
California Energy Commission (CEC)-listed.
The continuing advancement of solar technology is a key element of GE
ecomagination (www.ge.com/ecomagination), a GE commitment to
aggressively bring to market new technologies that will help customers
meet pressing environmental challenges. Launched in May of this year,
ecomagination is at the forefront of the company's business initiatives.
Under ecomagination, GE will invest $1.5 billion annually in research in
cleaner technologies by 2010, up from $700 million in 2004.
"GE Energy is an industry leader in the integrated design of solar
electric systems. We are proud to offer the new 200-watt high efficiency
solar module to the U.S. market," said Ali Iz, general manager of
technology growth for GE Energy. "The release of this newest solar
product is a further example of GE's commitment to ecomagination."
"Using GE Energy's 200-watt solar modules will allow us to increase the
amount of power generation per square foot of roofing space by 20
percent. This results in savings for our customers on both material and
labor costs while reducing the amount of roof space they need to
allocate to power generation," said Ed O'Brien, partner, McConnell
Energy Solutions (MES).
