Under the Program for the Development of the Electric Energy Industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan up to 2030, 5 MW wind power station will be constructed by 2010 at Dzungarian Gates, Kazakhstan - in Almaty Oblast at the Chinese border. For the realization of this project the Global Environmental Facility has provided USD $ 2.5 million and the government of Kazakhstan has allocated USD $ 4 million. The development of the alternative energies is the part of the diversification program established by the government of Kazakhstan. The country which has 3.3% of all hydrocarbon resources in the world (39 600 million barrels of proved reserves in 2004), doesn't want to be dependent on oil and gas, but wishes to develop other economic sectors such as wind, solar, hydropower and biomass power industries.
