Vietnam expected to export 9 mln tonnes of coal to China

HANOI, Jul 14, 2005 -- Asia In Focus

Vietnam is expected to export 9 million tonnes of coal to China this year, representing 60 per cent of the nation's total coal exports, the VIETNAM COAL CORPORATION (Vinacoal) said. During the first half of the year, coal exports to China jumped 83 per cent on-year to 4.3 million tonnes.

* Vinacoal attributed the surge in coal exports to China to rising demand to feed new thermo-power electric plants in Guangdong and Guangxi.

* Vietnam's coal is cheaper than that supplied by other nations thanks to short distances of transportation, it said.
