The Puffin left Reykjavik on 11th June, and after 57 hours and 38 minutes actual running time, returned to its starting point on the 25th June.

This was a serious challenge for the Hydro-Puffin; the fuel cell-powered vehicle had to endure what were effectively sub-zero temperatures and very bad road conditions, with mud causing some problems by sticking to both vehicle and driver!

The educational aspect of this adventure was also a real success, with two Icelandic elementary schools and a Japanese elementary school enjoying a satellite teleconferencing hook-up as part of an international exchange programme.

Although a real hydrogen economy is still some way off, Green Energy Adventure (GEA) hopes that this challenge has given people a glimpse of the future and provided encouragement and inspiration to a new generation, in addition to providing valuable real-world data on fuel cell performance in testing conditions.

GEA will produce a report on the adventure in due course and thank all involved for their support and cooperation, without which this undertaking could not have been successful.
