Chevron begins removing non-essential staff from USG due to storm

New York (Platts)--9Jun2005

Chevron said Thursday it had begun to remove non-essential workers from its
facilities in the eastern-central Gulf of Mexico ahead of Tropical Storm
Arlene. Workers were being evacuated from production platforms and deepwater
drillships in the area, a company spokesman told Platts, adding he did not
immediately have an exact figure on the number of staff affected. No
production was curtailed as yet. Arlene, the first named storm of the Atlantic
hurricane season, was about 165 miles south-southeast of the western tip of
Cuba at 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT). It is forecast to move through the
east-central Gulf of Mexico by Saturday morning, possibly disrupting oil and
gas production in the region.
