Syria, Egypt, Jordan Discuss Joint Power Grid

Ministers of electricity and energy in Syria, Jordan and Egypt have discussed on Wednesday [22 June] the current status of the electrical linking system among the three Arab countries.

"The three ministers also discussed faces of standing cooperation among them in this respect, " SANA reporter said.

Answering journalists, Minister of Electricity Munib Sai'm al- Dahr said, the meeting was to confer situation of the triple linking project in the three countries noting that it comes in framework of the septuplet linking project among Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Iraq and Turkey.

Sai'm al-Dahr announced that the project of electrical linking with Lebanon will be ready in two months noting to the special section related to linking with Turkey which might be ready to launch but needs to set a date for that.

He noted there were an electrical linkage between Egypt and Libya and the future accord that is agreed upon is to boost this linkage.

The electrical linkage project among Syria, Jordan and Egypt costs 400m dollars.

Sai'm al-Dahir had earlier stressed the importance of the economic revenue of the project and what it saves of permanent credit of electrical energy.

[The] Egyptian Minister of Electricity noted that development in domain of electricity is vital for life domains in any state.

Jordan's Minister of Energy regarded the project as an example to be followed in the Arab world due what it will lower of energy price and save it as well as exchange expertise.

Prime Minister Naji al-Itri discussed on Wednesday issues of triple cooperation with Egypt and Jordan over energy and electricity linkage.

"Talks have dealt with triple cooperation issues in field of energy and electrical grids. There is a stress on exchanging expertise as to cut electrical wasting and making use of regenerated energy, " the Premier told Minister of energy in Jordan Azmi Qurayshat and Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hasan Yunis.

Discussions which were attended by Minister of Electricity touched upon ties of cooperation and Arab integration in various fields of economy and development.
