US Senate's chief Democrat sees numerous energy bill amendments
Washington (Platts)--6Jun2005
US Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (Democrat-Nevada) Monday suggested that the Senate debate on a comprehensive energy bill could be longer than expected, saying he expects numerous amendments to the measure, which was approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in late May. In a press conference, Reid called the level of cooperation between committee Democrats and Republicans "one of the bright signs of this Congress," but added that he believes the bill falls short in promoting alternative energy sources and contains too many concessions to business interests. Although President Bush has demanded that Congress send him an energy bill to sign by early August, the Senate has yet to schedule its version of the bill for a floor vote. Senate aides are scheduled later Monday to discuss a possible floor schedule. This story was originally published in Platts Electricity Alert http://www.electricityalert.platts.com
