US refiners, petchem companies committed to plant security: NPRA

Houston (Platts)--16Jun2005

The oil, natural gas, refining and petrochemical industries are focused on
keeping "all sites as secure as possible from threats of violence or
terrorism," according to testimony presented Wednesday to the House
Subcommittee on Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection in Washingon, DC.

Steven P. Bandy, manager of corporate safety and security for Marathon Ashland
Petroleum, represented both the National Petrochemical and Refiners
Association and the American Petroleum Institute at the hearing, and said
experiences learned overseas have helped prepare companies within the US. "Our
industries have long operated globally, often in unstable regions overseas
where security is an integral part of providing for the world's energy and
petrochemical needs," he said. Bandy told the committee that US refiners and
petrochemical companies continue to upgrade facility security and share
information with government agencies on a regular basis.
