Arizona Utilities Sign Navajo Nation
Environmental Control Agreement
The Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service
have accepted Navajo Nation environmental regulation of their coal-fired power plants. The agreement marks the first time an Indian tribe has had control over air pollution from a non-Indian power company. The agreement addresses emissions from APS’
2,040 MW Four Corners Power Plant in New Mexico and SRP’s 2,250 MW Navajo Generating Station in Arizona. The facilities are located in an area critics call a "cancer alley."
