Biggest wind farm in Britain switched on

CEREDIGION, Wales, Jun 16, 2005 -- United Press International

The largest onshore wind farm in Britain, featuring 39 turbines that will supply power to 42,000 homes, has officially been activated.

Built at an approximate cost of $90 million, the turbines are designed to produce 58.5 megawatts of power and avoid releasing 160,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere yearly, the Telegraph reported Thursday.

The Cefn Croes Wind Farm in Ceredigion, Wales, is owned by Falck Renewables, a subsidiary of Italy's Falck Group, and operated through its subsidiary, Cambrian Wind Energy Ltd.

The wind farm is the largest in Britain.
