India reprocesses advanced fuel for nuclear power generation

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam has successfully reprocessed plutonium-rich carbide fuel for nuclear power generation in the fast breeder test reactor. The fuel, after high burn up, has been reprocessed for the first time in the world. The development is significant as it will help India conserve the scarce energy resources such as uranium and plutonium for future generations.
