Senate aims to complete energy bill by next Wednesday

WASHINGTON, Jun 16, 2005 -- AFX-Asia

The Senate plans to complete work on a broad bipartisan energy bill next week, Senate leaders said Thursday. The Senate has been debating the legislation on the Senate floor this week and plans to wrap up work on additional amendments by next Wednesday before moving to a final vote, said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn. Once the Senate passes energy legislation, lawmakers from the House and Senate will sit down to hammer out differences between their two versions of the bill. The House passed its version of the energy bill in April.
