UK energy users plan mission to Brussels to lobby policy makers

London (Platts)--3Jun2005

UK energy buyers are planning the first ever mission of a national energy
delegation to Brussels. The Major Energy Users' Council has issued an
invitation, seen by Platts, to UK energy customers, consultants and suppliers
asking them to join a trip to lobby European Union policy makers during Oct
17-18, 2005. The aim is to make constructive suggestions about the state of EU
energy markets at a crucial time, as the European Commission progresses its
planned investigation of European energy markets. That investigation is
expected to be launched in June and to produce initial findings by the end of
2005, with a full report out by end of 2006. "We will be able to meet and
influence the decision-makers at a critical point in time for European energy
policy," says MEUC. "It will not be an occasion to whinge but to make
thoroughly constructive suggestions." The mission is supported by the
Association of Electricity Producers, Energywatch and many more.
