Washington (Platts)--29Jun2005

US utilities generated 81,375 GWh in the week ending June 25, 7.6% more than
the 75,627 GWh they generated in the corresponding week of 2004, the Edison
Electric Institute said Wednesday.

The weekly total, however, was 1,425 GWh below the 82,800 GWh the sector
generated in the week ending June 18. The largest rise in output was reported
in the West Central region, where output jumped 30.3% to 7,435 GWh, compared
with the same period in 2004. Output in the Central Industrial area rose 17.2%
to 13,944 GWh and 15.7% to 14,058 GWh compared with 2004 in the South Central
region. Generation fell 2.7% to 5,346 GWh in the Pacific Southwest and 1.5% to
21,187 GWh in the Southeast from last year's numbers.

The EEI numbers are based on generation from investor-owned utilities,
cooperatives and government-owned utilities.
