"The projects we're backing promise to deliver replicable models for
renewable and energy efficient development."
- REEEP's International Director, Marianne Osterkorn
London, United Kingdom [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) recently announced just over 1 million Euros of funding for clean energy projects in Africa, Asia, North America, Latin America and Europe. There are 18 newly-funded REEEP projects focused on accelerating the market development of clean energy. They range from blueprints for national renewable energy policies to support for clean energy funds.
In keeping with REEEP's remit, half of the new projects focus on establishing
policy and regulatory models, and half on new financing techniques. Two thirds
of the projects are in the renewable energy sector, one third are in energy
efficiency.
"The projects we're backing promise to deliver replicable models for
renewable and energy efficient development," said REEEP's International
Director, Marianne Osterkorn. "Our partnership of governments, NGOs and
businesses is helping establish a stable global marketplace for clean
energy."
REEEP is an active global coalition of governments, business and organisations
that accelerates the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency
systems. The group structures policy initiatives for clean energy markets, and
facilitates financing for energy projects. Launched by the UK government at the
World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002, REEEP's
International Secretariat was established in Vienna in 2004.
REEEP's latest projects include assisting the Mexican government develop its
national renewable energy policy and developing a new financing mechanism for
energy-efficient district heating in Russia. These latest 14 projects are the
group's first in Mexico and Russia.
China too has requested REEEP support - in the development of a national roadmap
for its wind industry. REEEP is also making its first forays into Central and
Eastern Europe; backing small and medium-sized clean energy enterprises in
Poland and the Czech Republic, and helping remove barriers to residential energy
efficiency in Moldova, Armenia, Ukraine, and Russia.
REEEP is funded by seven countries - Austria, Canada, Ireland, Italy, the
Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States - and also the
European Commission. Twenty five countries have signed REEEP's mission statement
and are formal partners.
