Groups launch site
to help consumers dispose of paint
Nov. 3A new Web site has been launched to
help consumers manage their paint use and disposal.
The National Paint and Coatings Association, the Product Stewardship
Institute Inc. and a group called Earth 911 said the new consumer
information site, Paint Wise, can be found at
www.paint.earth911.org .
The site provides community-based information and tools to help
people purchase, apply, store and dispose of paint. The site includes
options for donation, recycling and disposal broken down by zip code.
The Product Stewardship Institute estimates that 16 million to 35
million gallons of paint end up being "surplus" each year.
"This national initiative will educate consumers on how to reduce
paint waste and will provide more opportunities for them to reuse and
recycle their leftover paint," said Scott Cassel, executive director of
the institute. "Paint Wise is a 24-hour resource that consumers can
continually turn to for updated information on how best to manage
leftover paint in their local area."
