New fuel ethanol plant in Texas to be powered by cattle manure

Nov. 15

A new 100-million-gallon fuel ethanol plant to be built in Texas will be powered by cattle manure.

Panda Energy, of Dallas, and Lurgi PSI, of Memphis, Tenn., have agreed to construct the $120 million plant in Hereford, Texas. The plant will convert cattle manure into bio-gas that will then be used to power the ethanol plant.

The plant will save about 1,000 barrels of oil per day, the companies said.

Panda also recently announced plans to build manure-powered ethanol plants in Yuma, Colo., and Haskell County, Kansas.
