MIAMI, Nov 09, 2005 -- BUSINESS WIRE

After restoring power to 3,192,500 or more than 98 percent of the 3.2 million customers of Florida Power & Light Company left without electric service by Hurricane Wilma, FPL and assisting crews are pressing on with their commitment to bring back power to each remaining customer as quickly and safety as they had worked at the outset of this massive restoration effort two weeks ago. Only 48,900 FPL customers now remain without electric service.

Restoration was essentially completed last night in the following areas:

-- In Broward County, the area west of I-75 and south of I-595, and the area north of I-595 and west of University Drive.

-- In Miami Dade County, the area between SW 8th Street and SW 88th Street.

The restoration team continues to converge on the remaining areas as follows:

-- In Palm Beach County, customers in the hard hit areas of Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay will be essentially restored by end of day tomorrow, Nov. 10.

-- Customers in remaining areas in Broward County as well as the area north of SW 8th St. in Miami-Dade will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 11.

The company will make every effort to complete the restoration by midnight November 11 - two days earlier than expected. Crews will continue working after that date to restore service to any customer whose damage may be more localized and severe.

Specific outage numbers by county are identified in the table attached. It is possible that a small number of customers in counties shown as "essentially restored" may still not have electricity, due to more localized and severe damage to the electrical equipment at or near their home or business. FPL would like to hear from these customers. If this is the case at your home or business, please call FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE so we can get your electricity back on as quickly as possible.

While workers continue to restore service, it is important for all customers to keep their safety and their family's safety top-of-mind. Stay away from downed power lines. If customers see a downed line and feel it presents a clear and imminent danger to themselves or others, they should call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE. If they have called to report a downed line once, they don't need to report it again.
