Washington bank begins offering sustainability-oriented
checking
Nov. 7A Pacific Northwest bank is starting
a new checking account designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and support sustainable initiatives.
The checking account, called EcoCash, encourages online banking but
allows five free paper checks per month at ShoreBank Pacific.
The bank also donates a portion of fees associated with the account
to carbon offset programs, which are designed to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, the bank said.
"After building our sustainable business banking programs, it was
time to turn our attention to the depositors who have so loyally
supported our values and want to establish ShoreBank Pacific as their
primary account," said David Williams, president and CEO. "Of course we
had to create an account with a sustainable twist. Our solution was to
not only create an easy, affordable way for people to bank with us, but
to also help offset the environmental impact of checking accounts that
most banks ignore."
ShoreBank Pacific is headquartered in Ilwaco, Wash., and has offices
in Portland, Ore. and Federal Way, Wash.
