-- The Louisiana Dept of Natural Resources on Oct 7 said
operators of onshore and shallow-water wells in a 38-parish region
have restored 39,641 b/d, or 19.5%, of the area's daily oil
production of roughly 203,139 b/d before hurricanes Katrina and Rita
made landfall. The agency added that operators have restored 535,700
Mcf/d of gas production, or 24% of the region's prestorm output of
roughly 2.235 Bcf/d.
-- LNG terminal developer Cheniere will begin remobilizing
construction activities on its Sabine Pass construction site in west
Cameron Parish, Louisiana, Oct 10, and expects activity to return to
pre-hurricane levels within the next 5 to 6 weeks. The Sabine Pass
LNG receiving terminal will be capable of receiving vessels of up to
250,000 cu meters, and is permitted for 2.6 Bcf/d of sendout
capacity in its first phase.
-- The Dept of Energy has received no new requests for loans of
crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the wake of
Hurricane Rita, a DOE spokesman said Thursday.
-- US gasoline demand has fallen 200,000 b/d, or about 3%, in the
past month amid near-record prices at the pump and as two hurricanes
wrecked a large part of the Gulf Coast region, the head of the
Energy Information Administration said on Oct 6.
-- Chevron has begun start-up procedures at its 325,000 b/d
Pascagoula, Mississippi, refinery, and expects the facility could
return to normal operations by the end of October. Katrina had
damaged the refinery's marine terminal, cooling towers and other
equipment, but a perimeter dike spared the facility from flooding.
-- With Sabine Pipe Line on Oct 7 lifting its force majeure at
five more interconnects at the Henry Hub in Vermilion Parish,
Louisiana, about 145,000 MMBtu in natural gas next-day spot trades
were done on the IntercontinentalExchange, an ICE spokesman said.
The Henry Hub has not traded spot gas since Rita hit Sep 21 due to
flood damage and a power outage. Sabine lifted the force majeure at
interconnects with Louisiana Gas System, Texaco Pipe Line/Citgo, the
Jefferson Island System and Bridgeline Gas. Sabine's force majeure
previously was lifted to Acadian Gas, Jefferson Island Pipeline,
Trunkline Gas, Kinder Morgan/Tejas Gas high and low-pressure systems
Calcasieu Gas, Natural Gas Pipeline Co of America, Gulf South
Pipeline, and Columbia Gulf Transmission. Force majeure conditions
continue to be in effect for all remaining points until further
notice by Sabine.
-- Louisiana utility Cleco Corp Friday estimated restoration work
following Rita will cost the company about $50-mil. Cleco said its
liquidity is sufficient to fund restoration costs from Katrina and
Rita, which made landfall on the US Gulf Coast Sept 24 and knocked
out power to about half of Cleco's 265,000 customers.
-- Entergy Corp early on Oct 7 said 91,000 of its customers in
Texas and Louisiana, remain without power after Rita, down from a
peak of 766,000. About 75,000 of those still without power are in
Texas.
