Entergy restores power to all but three New Orleans refineries

Washington (Platts)--2Sep2005
Entergy has restored electricity to all but three of the refineries in
the New Orleans area it supplies with power, the company said late Thursday.

The refineries still without power are ConocoPhillips' 250,000 b/d
Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse, the ExxonMobil/PDVSA 187,000 b/d Chalmette
refinery and Murphy Oil's; 125,000 b/d refinery in Meraux, a company spokesman
said. He was not able to say which other refineries the company had restored
power to.

Refining operations in the New Orleans area were severely disrupted by
the passage of Hurricane Katrina at the start of the week. Eight large
refineries, representing about 1.8-mil b/d of refining capacity--some 11% of
the total capacity in the US--remained off line Thursday.

The three refineries Entergy is still unable to supply power to are
located down river from New Orleans in areas most affected by Hurricane
Katrina, the spokesman said.

By late Thursday Entergy had restored service to 256,448 of the 1.1-mil
customers who were left without power in the wake of the storm. Entergy
Louisiana still has 644,154 without power and Entergy Mississippi has 190,759
without power.

Line crews from Massachusetts, Missouri, Virginia are working with the
4,000 Entergy workers to restore power.
