Environmental Power takes on partner for Texas manure-gas plant

Sept. 14 -- Environmental Power Corp. is adding a partner to its Huckabay Ridge manure gas plant being constructed near Stephenville, Texas.

The Portsmouth, N.H.-based company is teaming with South-Tex Treaters Inc., an Odessa, Texas, company that cleans, compresses and treats gases.

Environmental Power´s Microgy Inc. subsidiary will finance, design, construct and own the digester portion of the site. South-Tex will do the same for the gas cleaning and compression portion of the operation. The company also will be in charge of connecting the plant to the local natural gas distribution network.

Both companies will equally manage the project, and Microgy will hold 60 percent economic interest in the partnership and sale of gas.

The Huckabay Ridge facility will use eight 916,000-gallon digesters to process manure from up to 10,000 cows. The plant´s annual biogas production will have an energy content equivalent to about 12,700 gallons of heating oil per day.
