Hospitals taking steps to reduce use of mercury, survey
finds
Sept. 28 -- Hospitals have reduced the mercury at their facilities and
are moving to safer alternatives, according to a national survey
released Sept. 27.
The American Hospital Association and Hospitals for a Healthy
Environment found that 80 percent of the hospitals that responded to the
survey no longer use mercury fever thermometers. Sixty percent had
implemented a mercury management policy, and 54 percent plan to
virtually eliminate mercury facilitywide.
The report based on the survey data, "Making Medicine Mercury Free,"
