At our CALSEIA board meeting yesterday, there was unanimous
agreement (and regret) that the best thing at this point was for SB1
to die. The IBEW (electricians union) has much less influence over
the CPUC, and we are more likely to get a good solar incentive
program implemented there.
I urge everyone from now through the special election in November to
keep the pressure on the IBEW by showing our public displeasure over
how their single-handed attempt to hijack this bill has resulted in
its demise. As a Green Party member, I am not anti-union, but in
this case I hold the IBEW leadership squarely to blame. If they
truly supported solar, as they claim, they would never have inserted
this poison language in the bill and then refuse to negotiate with
us. They need to know that come November, ALL of the unions may pay
the price for the IBEW's behavior, if Prop 75 wins.
