Over one-third of Louisiana onshore wells unaccounted for: agency

Washington (Platts)--15Sep2005
More than one-third of Louisiana's onshore and shallow-water natural gas
and crude oil wells remain unaccounted for nearly two weeks after Hurricane
Katrina, the Louisiana Dept of Natural Resources said Thursday.
The DNR said 568 wells in an eight-parish region around New Orleans have
returned to service, producing 354,000 Mcf/d, or 14.5%, of the region's 2.48
Bcf/d of onshore gas output and 21,830 b/d, 9.6%, of the region's 228,253 b/d
of onshore crude oil output, the state agency said.
The DNR said of the region's 2,641 wells, 1,176 wells (44%) remain shut
in, 568 (22%) have returned to production and the remaining 897 (34%) have not
reported a status.
Wells that have not reported a status are responsible for more than 1.7
Bcf/d (71%) of the region's gas production, DNR said after surveying 149
operators. Nearly 59%, or 134,204 b/d, of the region's crude oil production
also has not reported in, the agency said.
