NREL Reports More Energy to Green
Customers in 2003
Analysts at the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
recently reported that approximately 1,650 megawatts of new renewable energy
capacity was supplying green power customers at the end of 2003. Also, the
analysts pointed out, an additional 390 megawatts us currently under
construction or has been announced.
Wind power constituted almost 94 percent of the new capacity. Another insight:
Renewable energy credits and competitive power markers produced twice as much
new capacity as utilities’ voluntary green pricing programs.
