ENERGY OVERVIEW

available. Included in the report is the latest information on world energy
market events, updated through July 2004. http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/monchron.html

popular Energy Kid's Page section of its Web site ( http://www.eia.doe.gov/kids

enjoyable and rewarding for students. http://www.eia.doe.gov/kids/
NUCLEAR
U.S. Commercial Nuclear Power: A State Compendium (08/25) The final 7 States are
available in this series of 31 profiles. In addition to the previously released
summaries, State nuclear summaries are now available for Pennsylvania, South
Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Some of the general
interest topics include the first nuclear power plant (Pennsylvania) and the
application for an early site permit in Virginia, a possible first step in
building the next commercial reactor. The compendium was mainly developed to
gather a variety of information in one place (nuclear generation, emissions,
nuclear capacity, market share, and license renewal status) for the convenience
of data users. http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/nuclear/page/at_a_glance/reactors/states.html
ELECTRICITY
Unique Reactors (08/20) In December 1951, twenty years after the death of Thomas
Edison, four electric light bulbs in Idaho signaled a new era. The Unique
Reactors feature looks at the first reactor to provide electric power, the first
commercial nuclear power plant, the largest reactors, the units with longest
service, and various other reactors that are worthy of note. Scientists
challenged conventional thinking as they sought to develop Russia's
nuclear-powered icebreaker, the first nuclear ship in the U.S. Army, Japan's
reactor for a small Alaskan village, and the Indian reactor that yields more
uranium than it consumes. http://eia.doe.gov/cneaf/nuclear/page/nuc_reactors/superla.html
