Retail gas prices likely to remain high: Kentucky PSC official

Washington (Platts)--7Dec2004

Forecasts of double-digit increases in gas prices were accurate, and Kentucky
Public Service Commission Chairman Mark David Goss said Monday there is no
assurance that the situation will change in the months ahead. The latest gas
cost adjustments filed by Kentucky's five major local distribution companies
are 13% higher on average than at this time last year. The adjustments reflect
the wholesale price of gas purchased by the companies--a cost passed on to
consumers on a dollar-for-dollar basis. A typical residential customer using
10 Mcf/month will pay an average $9.75/month more compared with last December.
The five major LDCs in Kentucky are Atmos Energy, Columbia Gas of Kentucky,
Delta Natural Gas, Louisville Gas and Electric, and Union Light, Heat, and
Power. Together, they serve over 750,000 customers in Kentucky and deliver an
average of 176 Bcf/year.
