Industry aims to build new nuclear plants earlier

WASHINGTON, Dec 08, 2004 (AFX-Asia via COMTEX)

The future looks promising for the construction of the next generation of nuclear power plants, said John Kane, the Nuclear Energy Institute's senior vice president of governmental affairs, on Wednesday. The institute, an industry group, is working with two industry consortia applying for a new combined construction and operating license to begin building the first nuclear power plant in the U.S. in over 20 years by 2010. "We're trying to get the consortia to get it done earlier," Kane said.
