FuelCell Energy Inc. of Danbury, Conn., will provide a 250-kilowatt Direct FuelCell (DFC) power plant as part of a temporary distributed generation micro-grid for the Democratic National Convention to be held at the Fleet Center in Boston. The company's DFC300A power plant will operate on natural gas supplied by Keyspan Energy and will be combined with generators to provide power for the Fleet Center and media stations. "We are delighted to be selected by the DNC as part of the team to provide clean, efficient onsite power for the convention, and this demonstrates that our ultra-clean DFC power plants can be part of meaningful distributed generation solutions in urban areas to supplement the existing utility electric infrastructure," said Herbert T. Nock, senior vice president of marketing and sales of FuelCell Energy, in a statement. The DFC300A power plant, a unit with enough power to provide the base load electricity requirements of a 300-room hotel, will directly convert natural gas, through a patented internal reforming process, into the hydrogen needed to electrochemically produce electricity. Constellation NewEnergy is the electrical supplier for the Fleet Center and the upcoming DNC. No financial details of the FuelCell Energy deal were released. FuelCell Energy stock opened the day trading at $9.99, up 29 cents from its close yesterday. |
