Wisconsin Public Service Beefs Up Renewable Energy Portfolio, Signs Up for 70 Megawatts of Wind Power
07/21/2004 - Energy Central
Green Bay, WI – Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation (NYSE: WPS), today announced it will increase its wind generation by 70 megawatts, increasing that portion of its renewable energy portfolio to a total of about 80 megawatts.
“This transaction further demonstrates our commitment to environmental
stewardship by adding to our green-power portfolio,” said Public Service Vice
President Barbara Nick. “We take our responsibilities seriously and continue
to work to optimize our energy supply sources.”
Public Service and the principals of Invenergy have a history of successful
electric generation development in Wisconsin dating to the construction of the
De Pere Energy Center in 1997.
“We are continually looking for the right opportunity to increase our
renewable energy portfolio and this is it,” Nick said. “It’s encouraging
to work with a company that is involving the surrounding communities and
neighbors in the proposed project to the extent Invenergy has.
“This wind power purchase agreement embodies a dedication to seek out the
most cost-effective solutions to meet future electric demand for our customers
while fulfilling our obligation to meet the Wisconsin Renewable Portfolio
Standard,” she added.
