Wisconsin Energy Corp. honored for waste reuse Wednesday, June 9, 2004 Wisconsin Energy Corp. has been honored for its reuse of fly ash, waste
created by coal burning at its coal-fired power plants. The company has won the Edison Award, an honor given by the electric power
industry's trade group, the Edison Electric Institute. Wisconsin Energy uses the ash in pavement, structural fill and as concrete
aggregate for a variety of building projects. The company formerly discarded its
fly ash from coal plants in landfills. The Milwaukee-based energy company was one of four energy companies that were
named in April as finalists for the award, which recognizes utilities that have
made significant contributions to the advancement of the industry.
