Cellex to field trial hydrogen
fuel cells at a Wal-Mart Distribution Center
Vancouver, BC, Canada – May 24th, 2004
Cellex Power™ announced today that the logistics
subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will participate in its next set of field
trials designed to test Cellex’s fuel cell products for powering electric lift
trucks.
Mr. Chris Reid, Cellex’s President and CEO commented “Lead acid batteries
typically last only 4 to 8 hours before requiring a battery change. In a
centralized battery room a depleted battery is removed from the lift truck and
replaced with a freshly charged battery, enabling the truck to return to work.
Customers can change batteries 2 to 3 times a day resulting in lost productivity
and increased operational cost. Reid added “our hydrogen fuel cell products
produce zero harmful emissions and will possess additional environmental
benefits to our customers.”
Reid says, “We have been conducting field trials since February 2002 and have
logged hundreds of truck days. We are excited about the upcoming field trials
that will include Wal-Mart as it is a milestone in our product development and
commercialization plans.”
The field trials are set to begin later this year.
