Fourteen appeals lodged against Irish Corrib gas terminal

London (Platts)--2Jun2004

Fourteen appeals have been lodged against the proposed onshore reception
terminal for gas from the 850-bil cu ft Corrib field offshore Ireland's west
coast, a spokesman for the Irish planning board said Wednesday. Mayo County
Council approved the terminal April 30. But between May 19 and May 27 a number
of parties lodged appeals, the spokesman said.

These were mostly from local residents concerned about the moving of peat from
the terminal site but one appeal was from Corrib's operator Shell, seeking
better terms for the terminal. The planning board--An Bord Pleanala--is
preparing to circulate copies of all of the appeals to each of the appellants.
It has set a target date of Sep 21 to make a decision on the appeals, although
decisions could end up taking longer. Shell already had one previous
application to build a terminal for Corrib rejected in April 2003 following
appeals to the planning board. Shell has 45% of Corrib, Statoil has 36.5% and
Marathon 18.5%.
