Mexico seeks up to 1.4 million mt

Mexican state generator Comision Federal de Electricidad is seeking between
900,000 mt and 1.4 million mt high calorific value, low ash content coal for
delivery between July and December 2004, market sources said. 

CFE usually buys high quality Australian and some Canadian coal and although
it has put out around six tenders so far this year, is believed to have only
bought about 500,000 mt. CFE may find its tenders produce fewer and fewer bids
as time goes on because it has failed to book much coal for import via
tenders. Instead, CFE is thought to have been burning fuel oil produced by
Mexican state oil company Pemex.
