The USA has offered technological assistance in preparing a project of constructing an oil pipeline to Indiga on the Barents Sea shore (the northeast of the Nenets Autonomous Area).

Transneft President Semyon Vainshtok made a corresponding statement. According to him, the issue of laying the pipeline was considered at his meeting with US Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham.

"The USA has offered its technological assistance, in particular we can get some technical information about a pipeline to Alaska," Vainshtok said.

At the same time he noted that no concrete agreement has been achieved with the USA on this project. Currently the USA is offering $ 1 mm to Transneft to pay Ernst & Young for surveying the US market to prepare a feasibility study of constructing the oil pipeline, the head of Transneft added.

"This is not a sum that can influence a decision making process; we are discussing the allocation of a large grant by the USA," he stressed. According to Vainshtok, the cost of preparations of a feasibility study of the project on laying an oil pipeline to Indiga exceeds $ 100 mm.
