US regular gasoline drops to $1.942; diesel flat at $2.116: EIA

The cost of regular-grade gasoline dipped 0.3 ct from last week to average $1.942/gal, the US Energy Information Administration said Monday. Despite the drop, prices are still 45.5 cts/gal higher this year than the corresponding week of 2003. Regular retail gasoline prices along the West Coast, the nation's highest-priced region, dipped 2.6 cts to average $2.157/gal. Prices slid 1 ct to average $1.937/gal in the Rocky Mountain region, fell 0.7 ct to average $1.942/gal in the East Coast, and slipped 0.3 ct to average $1.841/gal in the Gulf Coast region. Midwest prices gained 1.3 cts to average $1.884/gal. US on-highway diesel prices, meanwhile, remained unchanged from last week at $2.116/gal. Diesel prices are 64 cts/gal higher this year than the same week a year ago. West Coast prices dipped 0.9 ct to average $2.233/gal for the week, while East Coast prices slid 0.2 ct to average $2.141/gal. Diesel prices rose 0.5 ct/gal in the Gulf Coast to $2.053/gal, 0.3 ct/gal in the Midwest to $2.086/gal and 0.1 ct/gal to $2.171/gal in the Rockies.
