Delaware River transit reopened on case-by-case basis: USCG
New York (Platts)--29Nov2004
Vessel passage along a 12-mile stretch of the Delaware River closed after a weekend tanker spill near Philadelphia has resumed on a case-by-case basis, the US Coast Guard reported Monday. "We have opened a shipping lane and passage into the area will be subjected to a case-by-case assessment," a Coast Guard spokesman told Platts. Conditions for entry were not specified. The Athos I was under tow late Nov 26 to Citgo's 84,000 b/d asphalt plant in Paulsboro, New Jersey, when a leak of 30,000 gal of Venezuelan crude was discovered (story 1556 GMT). "At this point, we are lightering the Athos I of its fuel so that divers can patch up the hole and continue our investigation," the Coast Guard spokesman said. About 20 commercial vessels were waiting to enter or exit the safety zone, the Coast Guard reported earlier Monday.
